Tillman signs books in New Almaden

Event held at the New Almaden Community Club

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon at the New Almaden Community Club and neighbors and friends came out to get their books signed by author Mary Tillman.

Tillman, who wrote “Boots on the Ground by Dusk, My Tribute to Pat Tillman” was available for the afternoon and signed more than 30 books.

The mother of slain Army Ranger and Arizona Cardinal football player, Pat Tillman, Tillman said she wrote the book for two reasons; “I wanted the reading public to know the Pat I knew because he’s sort of been turned into a caricature. I also think the public deserves to know what kind of lies and deceptions we’ve been living under for the past four years,” she said.

It was an afternoon for friends, members of the New Almaden community and people from outside Almaden to sit around and talk, eat lunch and enjoy the afternoon near the creek where Pat Tillman, at age 7, caught a fish with his bare hands.

Among those attending were Art Boudrauldt, Mike and Doreen Boulland, Peggy and Syd Melbourne, Karen Pelosi Robbie Lamons, Dot Wilson, Warren Bowker, Terry Park and Jennifer Deghuee, who put together a scrumptious picnic lunch.

Everyone had read and enjoyed the book and some of the talk turned to the fish the young Tillman had caught. Peggy Melbourne noted that she found in her barn as she was cleaning it, the tool chest the kids had put the fish in. It’s now part of the memorial to Pat Tillman built by Dutch Mapes at the corner of Almaden Way and Los Alamitos.
