Vineland Library to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Colibri on Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. Colibri, Spanish for “hummingbird,” is a musical duo presentation of lively musical journeys through Latin America. Experience folk songs and instruments of Chile, Bolivia, Mexico, and more countries! Families are welcome.
Karaoke Friday will be held on Friday, May 23 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Celebrate the coming summer with a fun afternoon of karaoke and snacks. If you don’t want to sing, come hang out and cheer on your friends. This event is for children and teens in grades four and higher.
Teen Manga Contest! The Vineland and Cambrian Branch Libraries invite teens ages 12-19 to draw and write an original manga story. Turn in your story between June 14-July 26. Winners will be announced on Aug. 9. The first place prize is $100 and the library will publish the story! Visit the library for the complete details, including the rules and artwork release form.
Book Clubs:
- Saturday Sci-Fi Book Group will meet May 10 at 2 p.m. We will be reading “Out of the Silent Planet” by C.S. Lewis.
- Adult Mystery Book Club will meet on Wednesday, May 14 at 6:45 p.m. We will be reading “Under Orders” by Dick Francis. All mystery fans are invited to attend the second Wednesday of each month. Visitors are always welcome.
- The Evening Book Discussion Group will meet Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. This month we read “Mansfield Park” by Jane Austen. We usually meet the third Tuesday of each month. Visitors are always welcome.
- The Morning Book Group meets Thursday, May 22 at 10:15 a.m. “We Were the Mulvaneys” by Joyce Carol Oates will be discussed. The group meets the fourth Thursday of each month. Visitors are always welcome.
Story Times:
- Mother Goose story time features short rhymes, songs, finger plays and books to create a gentle language enrichment experience to bond children and their caregivers. Mother Goose is for infants-2 year olds and is offered every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
- Weds. preschool story time for ages 3-5 is at 11:30 a.m.
- Family story time is held on Saturdays at 11 a.m.
- Story time for twos has a new time on Fridays at 11 a.m.
- Chinese/English story time is on Wednesdays May 7 and 21 at 7 p.m.
- Spanish/English story time is on Tuesday May 13 at 7 p.m. Join us for songs and stories and the lively antics of Carlito the Bear.
Regular events and workshops:
- Yoga will be held on Monday nights at 6 p.m. Come relax with a yoga instructor. There is no charge. Please bring your own mat. Please note: Yoga will take a break during the summer. The last class is Monday, May 19. Yoga will return in September.
- Learn to knit or teach someone else at our Knitting Circle. Open to all ages. No charge. Bring your materials. Every Saturday at 4 p.m.
- One on One Internet and Computer Help: The library has knowledgeable, helpful volunteers to assist you with your specific questions. Call (408) 808-3020 to set up an appointment. For people 16 and older.
- The ESL Conversation Club is held every Tuesday at 1 p.m. No pre-registration required.
- Wii Wednesdays are every Wednesday from 3:30-5 p.m.
- Thursday Thump is a drumming workshop every Thursday afternoon from 4-5 p.m. Learn drumming techniques from an experienced musician!
- Vineland’s Anime Club is for teens grades six and up. Tuesday, May 6 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
- Looking to volunteer during the summer? Teens ages 13-18 are invited to join teensReach. Our teensReach meeting is Friday, May 9 at 4 p.m.
- Monthly craft for children kindergarten through grade six: Friday, May 16 from 4-5 p.m. All materials will be provided.
Vineland Branch Library is located at 1450 Blossom Hill Road.
